Spinal Meningitis – Lumbar Pain Injections

9 dead from contaminated injections

The side-effects of medicinal treatments for low back pain are not worth the risks or the costs. Failed back surgery syndrome sours the outcomes of invasive spinal operations. Most recently, reports have linked back pain-relieving steroid injections to cases of a rare, lethal meningitis. It could take up to a month to find out exactly how many people were sickened and died from the contaminated medication.

22 States Affected (blue)

According to the Associated Press: an outbreak of a rare form of meningitis is likely to grow after sickening 91 people in seven states, including 9 who died, health officials warned.

All received steroid injections, mostly for back pain, a fairly typical treatment.

The type of meningitis involved is not contagious like the more common forms. This type is caused by a fungus often found in leaf mold and which health officials suspect may have been in the steroid.

These lumbar epidural steroid injections were designed to combat back pain but have led to deaths.

Chiropractic Safer and More Effective

vs

the Risks of Injections

This unfortunate example does not confound or undermine the entirety of the medical model, but it certainly shows the value of having a choice. Chiropractic care is a powerful form of both rehabilitative and preventative care that is greatly under-utilized.

Chiropractors have long understood how regular adjustments can relieve back pain with almost no risk of further complications. Without drugs, injections or surgery, specific spinal correction has allowed us to help people get off the couch and back to work.

At Palmer Chiropractic, we focus on natural chiropractic care with out the use of drugs or surgery.  Chiropractors adjusts the spine to relieve nerve interference that restricts communication from the central nervous system to the rest of the body.  If you have been contemplating having an invasive procedure and would like to see is chiropractic care may be an avenue for you, Contact Palmer Chiropractic at 11400 Ford Ave in Richmond Hill, GA  31324 or call 912-756-3433.

According to Wikipedia: the disease path that causes headaches is

The brain itself is not sensitive to pain, because it lacks pain receptors. However, several areas of the head and neck do have nociceptors, and can thus sense pain. These include the extracranial arteries, large veins, cranial and spinal nerves, head and neck muscles and the meninges.[11]

Headache often results from traction to or irritation of the meninges and blood vessels. The nociceptors may also be stimulated by other factors than head trauma or tumors and cause headaches. Some of these include stress, dilatedblood vessels and muscular tension. Once stimulated, a nociceptor sends a message up the length of the nerve fiber to the nerve cells in the brain, signaling that a part of the body hurts.[12]

According to the American Chiropractic Association:

  • Perform spinal manipulation or chiropractic adjustments to improve spinal function and alleviate the stress on your system.
  • Provide nutritional advice, recommending a change in diet and perhaps the addition of B complex vitamins.
  • Offer advice on posture, ergonomics (work postures), exercises and relaxation techniques. This advice should help to relieve the recurring joint irritation and tension in the muscles of the neck and upper back.
“Doctors of chiropractic undergo extensive training to help their patients in many ways – not just back pain,” says Dr. McClelland. “They know how tension in the spine relates to problems in other parts of the body, and they can take steps to relieve those problems.”
At Palmer Chiropractic, we work with our patients to correct vertebra that are misaligned and causing neurological dysfunction. When the nervous system is free of interference and the body can utilize the maximum ability to command and control all of the bodily functions, many of our patients complaints go away. As a chiropractor I do not treat headaches, but many of my patients who have had their vertebra  adjusted and the interference corrected, have comment how the headaches have lessened in intensity and frequency. Dr Phil discusses Chiropractic with a College President

Dr. Phil and Dr. Fabrizio Mancini, President of Parker Chiropractic University, discuss the benefits of chiropractic wellness care.

ChiropracTIC is the science and art of finding and correcting vertebra that are misplaced and causing neurological dysfunction. By moving the vertebra back to its normal position and allowing the command and control system of the body (the nervous system) to function at optimum performance, your body is free to function as it should.
