Health Care versus Pain Care

In the quest of health, chiropractors move bones in your spine to maximize function. When function is maximized and the body can express 100% of its internal intelligence, health is the result. Health is the expression of your body working correctly, reacting properly to outside stimulus, and adapting to the changes in its environment. This sounds very simple but the human body is the most complex biological unit on the earth.

Nervous System

At the core of our complexity is the central nervous system made up of the brain and spinal cord, the command and control center of the body. Surrounding the spinal cord is 24 vertebra that make up a majority of the spine. In the normal human spine there are 7 cervical vertebra & 6 cervical discs, 12 thoracic vertebra & disks, 5 lumbar vertebra & discs. This structure is meant to protect and facilitate mobility for the command and control of the body, so the nerves can control all functions in the body without interference.

Injured Spine

When a portion of this spine is injured, degeneration begins unless it’s corrected and strengthened. Misaligned vertebra with soft tissue injury follow a steady path of degeneration that eventually leads to unrelenting constant pain, but there are many warning signs that get ignored. Warning signs can be as little as occasional stiffness, intermittent pain, swelling, or twitches, to more aggressive things such as weakness, more frequent pain, dysfunction of the tissue that the nerve goes to, neuralgia, etc.. If you’re taking pain relievers to dull the PAIN, you’re turning off your warning system that the body has in place to tell you SOMETHING IS WRONG.

Pain Killers

How many times a week do you take a pain killer?  a month? a year? or many years? Would you ever consider putting a band aid on an unusually dark skin blemish to cover it up for a week? a month? a year? or many years? Covering something up doesn’t deal with the problem, it just kicks the can down the road to deal with it when it’s bigger and meaner.

Natural Healthcare

Through Chiropractic care you can help maintain a healthier spine and promote overall body health, because life begins with the nervous system and ends with the nervous system.

Secondary Infection for Low Back Pain Injections

The CDC is reporting that people who have been treated for Fungal Meningitis from the contaminated back pain injections are at risk for developing fungal spinal abscess. A spinal abscess threatens the spinal cord by compression and also with vascular compromise.

Low Back Pain Injections Kill 29 and rising

Prognosis: Poor – Dr. Carol A. Kauffman, an expert on fungal diseases at the University of Michigan, said “in these instances, all that can be done is administration of more antifungal drugs and hope for the best.”

The best of the best fungal specialists are running out of cures for this contamination.

Back Pain Injections Are Temporary

According to Spine Health “while the effects of the injection tend to be temporary – providing relief from pain for one week up to one year“. Cost per injection (3 is normal) $500-$700 each session, Total cost $1500-$2100 per year of relief.

Back Surgery for Sciatica is Temporary

According to  Dr. Steven Cohen from the John Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, “Surgery may help in the short term. Studies haven’t found an effect in people who did or didn’t have an operation a couple of years down the line.
Low Back Surgery Total Cost and Recovery: $78,000 – $121,000.

Chiropractic Safer and More Cost Effective

To quote the Medical Researchers, “After controlling for severity and demographics, no health maintenance care is generally as good as chiropractor care.” (Spinal Care) – http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21407100

An actuarial review of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee’s general health plans claims between October 1, 2004 and September 30, 2006 was undertaken and records revealed –  “Paid costs for episodes of care initiated with a DC were almost 40% less than episodes initiated with an MD.” http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21109053

Autoimmune Diseases are on the Rise

Virginia  Ladd, President of the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association (AARDA) said “With the rapid increase in autoimmune diseases, it clearly suggests that environmental factors are at play due to the significant increase in these diseases. Genes do not change in such a short period of time.”

The key words in her statement are environmental factors , because what environmental changes have happened  in the our  world’s health in the last 40 years? Do the plants still grow the same? Yes. Do wild animals still grow the same? Yes. Is a little girl in a third world nation as susceptible as you to an Autoimmune Disease? Statistics say “No”. Then we need to ask ourselves WHY? What has effected the health of an entire segment of our population?

One researcher took a look at statistics and wrote this paper “THE EFFECT OF INFECTIONS ON SUSCEPTIBILITY TO AUTOIMMUNE AND ALLERGIC DISEASES” by JEAN-FRANÇOIS BACH, M.D., D.SC.  In his article in the New England Journal of Medicine September 2002, the French researcher Jean-Francois Bach correlated a possible relationship with the decrease in treatable childhood diseases and the incurable autoimmune diseases. Please see the graph below.   http://coronadobio.com/pdfs/Bach%20NEJM%202002.pdf

More research in Japan has lead to some new theories involving the T-cells:

New research suggests that systemic autoimmunity (SLE – systemic lupus erythematosus) is the consequence of overstimulating the immune system with an antigen to levels that surpass the body’s homeostasis (normal function).    http://www.futuremedicine.com/doi/pdf/10.2217/ijr.10.94

In the book The UltraMind Solution,  Dr. Mark Hyman says “We are becoming hypersensitive to our environments, perhaps because we live in an over-sterilized environment and our immune systems don’t mature properly or because we are eating hybridized and genetically modified (GMO) foods full of antibiotics, hormones, pesticides, and additives that were unknown to our immune systems just a generation or two ago.”

According to  Dr. Frederick Miller of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences “The best way to combat the rise in autoimmune diseases is to do research to understand the genetic and environmental risk factors for them, so that those who are at highest risk for developing disease after certain environmental exposures might be able to minimize those exposures and prevent the development of autoimmune disease.”

The immune system is a wonderful and complicated system. We have yet to scratch the surface of how it works. When a patient wants a full and complete immune system, We don’t think there are any short cuts. It’s just like training for a marathon: you start off small and work up to larger and larger distances, so that when the Marathon comes you’re prepared. If you’ve always used vaccinations, antibiotics, and antivirals to crutch your immune system, the “27 mile” pneumonia may be too much for you to handle.

At Palmer Chiropractic, we work with our patients to correct vertebra that are misaligned and causing neurological dysfunction. When the nervous system is free of interference and the body can utilize the maximum ability to command and control all of the bodily functions, many of our patients complaints go away. As a chiropractor I do not treat disease, but many of my patients who have had their vertebra  adjusted and the interference corrected, have commented how much better they feel. Call today for an appointment with Dr. Trace Palmer for your chiropractic evaluation.
